Costs
Family Lawyer Fees in Singapore
Not knowing what something will cost is its own kind of stress, on top of everything else. So this page says what we can say honestly, and is clear about what depends on things nobody knows yet.
First consultation
Usually free
An initial conversation with a family lawyer, which we are usually happy to have at no charge. Enough to tell you where you stand and what is likely to be straightforward. No obligation afterwards.
Uncontested divorce
From S$2,000
A fixed fee, where you and your spouse agree on the reason and on the arrangements for property, children and maintenance.
Contested matters
By written estimate
The cost turns on what is actually in dispute. We give you an estimate in writing after the first consultation, and tell you if the scope changes.
Figures are indicative and exclude disbursements, which are court fees, service fees and other third-party costs paid on your behalf. The final quote is confirmed in writing before any work begins.

About the fees
Why can you not quote a figure for a contested matter?
Because the cost depends on what the other side does, which neither of us knows yet. A number produced before anyone has seen the disclosure would be a guess dressed as a quote, and the ones that look attractively low at the outset are the ones that move most.
What we can do, and do, is give a written estimate once we understand the dispute, and tell you when the scope changes rather than after.
What are disbursements?
Costs paid to others rather than to us: court filing fees, service fees, and any third party the matter requires. They are not part of the legal fee and are billed at what they cost.
Is the first conversation really free?
An initial conversation usually is, and there is no obligation afterwards. It is enough to establish where you stand and what the route looks like. If your matter is simple enough not to need a lawyer, that is what we will tell you.
Can I pay in stages?
Raise it at the first meeting. It is a normal question and a better one to ask early than to worry about quietly.
Start with the free consultation
Usually no charge, and no obligation. You will know a great deal more about where you stand at the end of it.
